Leaders are people we mostly take as role models. They are people whom we aspire to be like and follow. When you think of great leaders, you think of Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama and Mahatma Gandhi. These people have similar traits. They are people who dare to fight and stand for what they believe to be correct, people we can share our problems with and people who are known to have communicated with and moved us.

A leader is someone who inspires people with passion and enthusiasm. The person who has a vision and knows how to get there. He ensures that their team gets the resources and support they need to achieve their objectives.

A good leader is all three. A leader should be any of these things.

A successful leader has a shared vision based on fundamental values and is aware of what it will take to achieve the team's objectives. They motivate, manage, and encourage their teams to work together creatively and boldly toward a common goal. They encourage their subordinates to embrace their specific leadership skills and act with self-accountability and enthusiasm.

Importance Of A Leader

A leader is significant because he is that person who provides everyone with a sense of direction. He is like a shepherd leading its sheep towards their destination. Without the shepherd, a lot of sheep would get lost on the way. The leader reminds the team members what they stand for.

Being a leader is a bit difficult, especially when you are paired with unmotivated subordinates and people who disagree with you. You would be expected to carry everyone along. Leadership skills may be innate and learned. Being in a leadership role gives you the chance to learn about being a leader.

Traits Of A Successful Leader

The following traits are what are expected of a good leader

  • Ability to Delegate: A leader believes in the capacity of his team members, so he delegates tasks to the members based on their knowledge and potential. Instead of carrying all the burden of performing responsibilities, he charges them to his team members. Instead of constantly hounding his team members about their task, he is there is to provide moral support.
  • Empathy: When you are empathetic, it means you are sensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and experiences of another person in the past or present without having those feelings, ideas, and experiences. A successful leader feels empathy for people around him. Being empathetic makes you seem more human.
  • Being Accountable & Responsible: A successful leader must be accountable and responsible for his team. Instead of throwing his teammates under the bus the first chance he gets, he should take full responsibility for the shortcomings and faults of his team members. An accountable leader is someone whom
  • Effective communicator: Effective communication is very different from communication. You might be able to communicate but not effectively. You must be able to pass your message across to people effectively. A successful leader can pass his message across clearly without miscommunication and gets his members working.
  • Self awareness: This is a vital point to being a leader. A leader needs to be aware about his and his team's strength and weaknesses. Being self aware and ready to make you for the weaknesses and highlighting your strength is very important. A successful leader has to be aware of things going on around him to perform to the best of his ability.
  • Positivity: A person with a positive mindset is someone who attracts good things. A leader who has a negative mindset tends to bring down the morale of the team. A successful leader always looks at things from a positive angle and doesn't fail to encourage his team members to do so.
  • Approachable and solution-oriented: To be a good leader, you have to be approachable. Your team members should be able to share their burdens with you while knowing you would come up with a solution. Your team members need support and solution to their problem.
  • Close Relationship: A leader is someone who has close relationship with those around him. Forging relationship and maintaining them is a the characteristics of a good leader. Not in the history of leadership has anyone said they got to where they are just by being alone.
  • Self motivated: To be a successful leader, you must be self motivated. You have to set an example for your team. You must set goals for yourself and your team and get it done. That way, your team would be convinced that you are a person they can count on to achieve things.A

A leader is not perfect. They do not always make the right decision, that's why they are the leader. They learn from other people past mistake and theirs to make their own decisions.
